Why Attend NYFA’s Hands-On Workshops
NYFA offers professional workshops in filmmaking, visual, and performing arts in Beijing and additional cities in China. In these seasonal programs, students receive a project-based education, studying and practicing the techniques and trends used in Hollywood filmmaking.
Make Your Own Films in Beijing, China
Beijing is an exciting city with a long, winding history that has inspired countless legends and stories, making it an ideal location to study filmmaking. To meet the interest of aspiring Chinese filmmakers who want to make their own films, NYFA offers seasonal workshops where students learn how to write, direct, shoot, and produce their own short movies. NYFA’s programs in Beijing are held at the renowned Beijing Film Academy, centrally located in the Haidian District.
In all of NYFA’s Beijing programs, students are taught by experienced filmmakers who actively work in the film, television, and entertainment. Our faculty have earned their degrees from some of the most prestigious film programs, and can fully prepare students for the challenges of competitive creative industries.
In the past few decades, China has released culturally significant films including The Birth of New China (1949), This Life of Mine (1950), Spicy Love Soup (1997), and Curse of the Golden Flower (2006), proving itself as an ideal location for film production. The rise of influential directors, such as Zhang Yimou, Red Sorghum (1988), Raise the Red Lantern (1991), The Story of Qiu Ju (1992), and To Live (1994), has inspired a new generation of Chinese filmmakers to share their visions with the world.
To help facilitate the professional development of these filmmakers, NYFA launched filmmaking programs in 2011, located in Beijing, China. The hands-on programs are in partnership with Beijing Film Academy and CCTV, and teach students to write, shoot, direct, and produce their own short films. In 2012, NYFA was officially recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China as an accredited educational institute of higher learning. Today, our workshops run seasonally and are scheduled based on availability.
