Holly Morris’s The Babushkas of Chernobyl premiered at the LA Film Festival and won the Jury Award for Directing, which was the first of 20 awards the film would go on to receive.
The story of the film is based on Morris’ print journalism and popular TED Talk. Morris’ other films featuring female role models include Behind Closed Chadors, Holy Cow, Mana Wahines, and Paradox Found: Cuba. Part of the series Adventure Divas broadcast nationally on PBS and worldwide.
The author of Adventure Divas: Searching the Globe for a New Kind of Heroine is a longtime host of Globe Trekker (PBS).
Morris also has a career in print journalism and has been featured in Outside, National Geographic Adventure, SLATE, The New York Times. Her works in film received notable grants including from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Redford Center, Fork Films, Chicken & Egg Pictures, and the San Francisco Film Society.
In September of 2022, Morris and the team behind the documentary film Exposure visited the NYFA Los Angeles campus for a Q&A, open to NYFA students and local LA-based alumni. The conversation was moderated by the film’s producer, Carolyn Pfeiffer.
