Fred Murphy has been director of photography for dozens of films and television shows, including Hoosiers, Secret Window, Stir of Echoes, Murder in the First, Scene from a Mall, and the television series In Treatment and The Good Wife, to name just a few. In April 2013, Murphy spoke with students at New York Film Academy’s New York campus, and went into vivid detail about the work of a cinematographer. “There are hardly any surprises in TV,” he told the audience, “whereas in movies everyday is a different day. I learned in movies, there’s really only one camera. In television you have to come up with a lighting solution that allows for multiple cameras.”
