Shivani Rawat is a 2007 NYFA graduate whose career as a producer speaks for itself.
After attending NYFA’s 1-Year Screenwriting program at the New York campus, Rawat made her production debut as the executive producer for Today’s Special: New York Indian (2012). The one-hour TV special features Aasif Mandvi and Madhur Jaffrey as they sample delicacies from Indian restaurants across New York City.
In 2015, she made her film production debut with Danny Collins, starring Al Pacino. Meanwhile, Rawat produced Trumbo the same year, followed by Captain Fantastic in 2016. She then served as executive producer for The Polka King (2017), which stars Jack Black as a Pennsylvania polka musician whose get-rich-quick scheme lands him in jail. Rawat subsequently executive-produced the film Beirut, starring Jon Hamm, the same year.
Rawat then produced Brian Banks (2018), about an aspiring football player whose dreams of playing in the NFL are derailed by a prison sentence. She also served as producer for Wander Darkly and The Water Man. Following her work on those three films, Rawat executive produced The Trial of the Chicago 7, starring Eddie Redmayne, Alex Sharp, and Sacha Baron Cohen.
The film is based on real-life events surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Not surprisingly, The Trial of the Chicago 7 was nominated for six Academy Awards in 2021, including Best Picture. Meanwhile, the film also received three BAFTA nominations and five Golden Globe nominations that year. Rawat’s production work on The Trial of the Chicago 7 also earned her a nomination for the Producers Guild of America’s 2021 PGA Award.
In 2021, Rawat served as executive producer for the film The Ice Road, starring Liam Neeson. She is currently working on a sequel, Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, which has yet to begin production. Meanwhile, Rawat’s recent projects include executive producer credits for Golda and Cold Copy.
Additionally, Rawat produced the film Love Me (2024), starring Kristen Stewart. She is also the producer of Winner, a biographical comedy based on the true story of Air Force veteran and NSA contractor Reality Winner (played by Emilia Jones). The film, which also stars Kathryn Newton and Zach Galifianakis, will premiere in theaters later this year.
She is also the founder of ShivHans Pictures. This independent production and finance company focuses on crafting unique and compelling feature films outside the traditional Hollywood studio model. The studio’s productions include the aforementioned Beirut, Captain Fantastic, Danny Collins, and Trumbo, along with Hotel Mumbai.
